Lady Warriors Shutout Bristol

The Lady Warriors home opener turned out to be a shooting fest as the Bristol Bees got stung by Massasoit. It only took Massasoit 42 seconds to get on the scoreboard and dominate the game. Scoring was led by captain Laura Sudbey with 5 goals and 4 assists. Tatiana Veiga had 4 goals and 3 assists. Mandy Reske ,Amanda Hill and Tamyris Garcia each contributed one goal apiece. Steph Arsenault was in the goal for the shutout victory. Amber Dyer and Meg Hume helped guide the Warriors for the first win at home.

Massasoit now improves to 3-1-0 and will host league rival, Holyoke CC, at 1:00pm on Saturday.

Lady's Soccer falls to CCRI

The Lady Warriors dropped a tough one yesterday to Div. I powerhouse CCRI in Lincoln R.I. They played a great first half holding CCRI to only one goal. After half-time, CCRI came out like gangbusters and broke the score wide open by knocking in 6 unanswered goals. Massasoit played flat for the first twenty-five minutes before rallying to hold the Lady Knights scoreless for the last 20 minutes. Co-captains Mandy Reske and Laura Sudbey’s valiant efforts led their team but CCRI dominated the day. Record to date: 1-1

Men's Soccer at 1-1

Even thought the men lost their first game against Monroe CC the team went into their second game against Naval Academy Prep with clear minds and won 9-0.

Leading the scorers for Massasoit was Greg Giguere who scored 3 goals and picked up 2 assists while John Barros Varela scored 2 goals and 1 assist. Other scorers included Danilo Batista, Joshua Dacosta, Patrick Oyede, and Elder Barbosa whileCandido Barros, Valter Monteiro, John Barros Veiga, Elder Barbosa, and Joshua Dacosta added assists. Joe Pinto earned the shut-out.

The men's team is a young one this season with only 3 Sophomores. Coach Estrela is enjoying working with this young team and feels that this season is one worth looking forward to.

Massasoit 9, Naval Academy Prep 0

The men’s soccer team dominated over Naval Academy Prep, 9-0 and picked up their first win of the season. Leading the scorers for Massasoit was Greg Giguere who scored 3 goals and picked up 2 assists while John Barros Varela scored 2 goals and 1 assist. The men’s record stands at 1-1 after dropping their initial game of the season to Monroe Community College on Sept. 5, 2-0.

On Saturday the men travel to Manchester Community College where they take on the Cougars for a 2:00 game.

Lady Warriors Win Two at Home.

On Saturday the Lady Warriors had a double header against Holyoke and won both games.

The Lady's won their first game by Mercy Rule in the 5th inning leading Holyoke 10-1. Pitcher Ashley Felaccio pitched an outstanding first game. She held Holyoke to 1 hit, had 5 stirkeouts, and 1 unearned run.

The offense in the first game was fueled by Shannon Mullen who had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Joneiha Viega, who also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and the Abington Connection, Brianna Dudley and Stephanie Adukonis, who together had 4 hits and 3 RBI.

The Lady's won their second game 13-7.

In the second game Shannon Mullen had 3 more hits and 1 RBI bringing her days total to 5 hits and 3 RBIs. Also with 3 hits in game two was Courtney Johnson and Jen Damarion also know as "The Whitman Connection". The two also had a total of 4 RBIs. Ashley Felaccio and Stephanie Adukonis also helped out in the second game with 2 hits a piece.

The offensive star of the day though was Treasa O'Neil. O'Neil went 5 for 5 with 4 singles and a home run in the 6th inning of game two. She also had 3 RBIs.

These two games improve the Warriors recored to an over 8-9 and a 6-2 in Region 21. The Lady's will visit Holyoke on Sunday where they will play another double header starting at 12:00

Lady Warriors Softball Pull Out a Win Against Dean

The Last Warriors won a 8-5 game against Dean on Tuesday. Even though it didn't look so good for the Warriors in the top of the 5th when Dean pulled ahead 4-1, the Warriors bats starting swinging and they scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th and one more run in the 6th. Shannon Mullen had 2 of the 8 RBIs with scoring a run herself. Also with RBI's were Joneiha Veiga, Ashley Fetaccio, Steph Adukonis, and Brianna Dudley. Pitcher Ashley Felaccio had 7 strike-outs. Come cheer on the Lady Warriors on Saturday when they have a double header against Holyoke at noon.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball post successful seasons!

Congrats to the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams on their successful seasons!

The Lady Warriors took on the Lady Pointers of University of Connecticut at Avery Point in the Semi-final round of the NJCAA New England Div. III Tournament. Massasoit was ahead most of the first half and went into the locker room down by only 1 point. But UCAP’s height and inside game caught up with the Lady Warriors as UCAP pulled away with a 78-58 victory.

The men vied for the NJCAA New England Div. II championship title against CCRI once again. CCRI overpowered the Warriors in a valiant team effort by the Massasoit squad. CCRI brought home the title with an 84-66 win over the Warriors.

Congratulations to Marcus McLaurin (23) (first team), Rob Adams (3) (first team), Joneiha Veiga (22) (first team) and Shannon Mullen (12) (honorable mention) being named to the NJCAA Men’s Div II and Women’s Div. III All-New England teams.

Warriors Edged By STCC, 67-66

In the state semifinals the Warriors were edged by Springfield Technical Community College, 67-66. MCC played their best game of the year but were unable to defeat the tough STCC squad. Rob Adams had 18 points for Massasoit while Matt Ezepek added 16. Marcus McLaurin had 15 points to help the cause while Quinton Peddy and Mike Paige added 8 each. MCC had a final shot to win but the shot hit the back of the iron and the Warriors were denied.

The Warriors travel to CCRI on Saturday to take on the Knights at 2:00 pm for the Regional championship.

Lady Warriors Take Second in MCCAC Tournaments

The Lady Warriors of Massasoit competed in the Massachusetts State Junior College tournament this weekend for the second time in two seasons. As the number two seed in the tournament Massasoit drew the number three seed Springfield Technical Community College who they lost to only a week ago. The Lady Warriors played brilliantly in the first half building an 11 point lead by the end of the half, 35-24, behind the scoring of Katy Holt and Treasa O’Neil who each scored 10 points in the first half. At the 10 minute mark of the second half The Lady Warriors had amassed a 20 point lead, but Springfield would not go away quietly as they fought tooth and nail to cut the lead to 8 points by the end of the game. The Warriors held on 62-54 and moved to the final game and a chance at the State title for the second year in a row behind the effort of Treasa O’Neil (20 points, 3 assists) and Katy Holt (16 Points). Joneiha Veiga also grabbed 14 rebounds in the win.

In the second game of the tournament on Sunday the Lady Warriors faced the number one seed, Roxbury Community College. During the season the Tigers of Roxbury defeated Massasoit twice by margins of 18 and 16 points. The game did not start well for Massasoit as they found themselves quickly down 10-0 with fifteen minutes remaining in the half. By the end of the half the Warriors were down 38-17 and it looked like the game was going to be a blow-out, but the Lady Warriors would not surrender. With a Herculean effort, the Warriors managed to cut the lead to 10 points with just five minutes left in the game behind the play of Diva Pierre. It looked like the Warriors might come back, but a 4 point play by Jillisa Walcott who stuck a three pointer, was fouled, and made the foul shot, sealed the game for the Tigers. Katy Holt led the scoring for Massasoit with 14 points and Diva Pierre added 11 points and 5 assists in the loss.

Massasoit (3 seed) takes on the number 2 seed, the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, next Saturday at Quinsigamond College in the Regional tournament for a bid at the national tournament.

Warriors Defend Their Turf

Led by great efforts by Michael Paige and Matt Ezepek the Warriors defeated UCAP 77-54. Ezepek ( 12 points) and Paige( 6 points 4 rebounds) limited the top 2 scorers in New England to 14 points combined as the warriors went to 15-7. Rob Adams led the scorers with 24 and Marcus McLaurian added 20.
MCC plays Saturday in the State Tournament at 6:00, against Springfield Tech.
The Men will also be competing in the NJCAA New England Tournament playing CCRI at CCRI. The game will be February 28th at 2:00 pm.

Senior Night At Massasoit

Tuesday night was Senior Night at Massasoit. Coach Pina honored Juliana Blanchette, Amanda Dutcher, Shannon Mullen, Shaleeka Rogers, and captain Joneiha Veiga who are playing there last season with the Lady Warriors.
Following the honoring of the seniors, the Lady Warriors dedicated the night to Corey Shea. Corey's little sister Kayla became the honorary 6th man that night sporting the Warriors shirt saying "Tenacious D Wins Championships!" along with a new pair of KG sneakers, given to her by the team. Kayla was very excited to be on the bench that night. Even though she has been to a Celtics game before, this was her first College game. Kayla's spunk and charisma was the talk of the Lady Warrior's bench that night. This young girl, who wants to try out for Hockey because of her love of Ice Skating, had an amazing time remember her older brother who she loves and misses. "My favorite memory of Corey is him holding me on our couch until I would fall asleep" said Kayla. Kayla has a lot ahead of her in life and the personality to charm a room and take her as far in life as she wants to go.
Even though Senior Night was one to remember, the Lady Warriors fell to Quinsigamond 48-52. Quinsigamond held Joneiha Veiga to only 7 points. Treasa O'Neil scored the most with 18 points and Katy Holt had 9 points. In the end, Quinsigamond had the better defense. "We left to many of their girls open," said Coach Pina. "We weren't sharing the ball enough and we were not finding the best shots."
Despite the lose, the Lady Warriors are 1 of 4 teams heading to the MCCAC State Tournament being help at Holyoke Community College today. The Ladies tap off at 2:00 pm against Springfield Tech.
Next weekend, the Lady Warriors wll be competing in the NJCAA New England where they will be playing at Quinsigamond CC against University of CT, Avery Point.

Lady Warriors Lose to Springfield Tech 58-65

The Lady Warriors lost to Springfield Technical CC on Saturday on the road. After winning seven in a row, the Lady Warriors have now lost four of their last five contests. Despite early foul trouble for team captain Joneiha Veiga, Massasoit took a 29-25 lead into half time. It looked like Massasoit might win the game easily as they built a ten point lead with just less than ten minutes to go when STCC’s shooting heated up hitting their threes and Massasoit cooled down, having trouble finding the hoop at the line. Joneiha Veiga led all scorers with 18 points. Katy Holt added 15. Massasoit's record is 11-7 going into the final game tonight against Quinsigamound CC

Warriors Fall Short

The Men's Basketball team fell short of the win last night against CCRI with the final score 78-81. Even though they lost, they played hard and had four players scoring in the double digits. Rob Adams lead the team with 26 points, Matt Ezepek had 12 points, Marcus McLaurin had 17 points, and Quinton Peddy had 15 point. Adams also had 5 steals with 4 assists, Ezepek had 3 assists, Peddy had 15 rebounds, and McLaurin had 8 rebounds and 4 steals. In the end, the Warriors turned the ball over 17 times which hurt the team and brought on the 3 point lose.

The men's team will play Saturday at 3:00 at Springfield Tech.

Lady Warriors Fall to the Tigers

The Lady Warriors played a tough game against Roxbury last night but in the end fell short of a win with the final score 59-75.
Helping the Lady Warriors was Joneiha Veiga with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals, Katy Holt with 9 points, and Treasa O'Neil with 9 points. This was the first game however that Veiga and O'Neil were out of the game at the same time.
Roxbury had 3 girls scoring in the double digits. "They were a very tough team," said coach Sal Pina, "but I'm impressed with our teams effort and in the end they played the full 40 minutes and didn't give up."

The Lady Warriors play Saturday at 1:00 pm at Springfield Tech.

The Warriors last home game as well as last game of the season will be Tuesday when they play Quinisigamond at 5:00 pm. Tuesday is going to be Senior Night and the Lady Warriors will be dedicating the night to Corey Shea. Corey served in the Army and gave his life for our country three month ago. Come down and show your support.

Basketball Skills Clinic

Do you have a son or little brother interested in learning how to play basketball or already does play and wants to improve his game? Look no further. The Coaches of Massasoit's Men's Basketball team will be holding a skills clinic for boys in grades 1-8.
The Clinic will be held Sunday, February 15 from 2-5 pm and Monday, February 16 from 5-8 pm. Coaches Jim Stapleton, Nick Nofi, and Mark Braithwaite will assist in helping boys improve on the fundamentals of Basketball. Shooting form, Defense, Ball Handling and Passing are just some of the many skills that will be the focus of the day.

Prices for Sunday and Monday are $25.00 for each day and $40.00 if you decide to participate in both sessions.

Lady Warriors Defeat Dean Again 60-59

It was another nail biter for the Lady Warriors as they edged out Dean by 1 point. This marked the second time Massasoit beat Dean in a close game. The last time the two teams matched up, Massasoit won in OT, 68-53. Last night’s game seesawed back and forth as the lead changed hands several times. Then, with two minutes to go and a Massa 58-50 lead, it looked like the Warriors had the win in hand, but Dean would not go away quietly as they fought back to get within one point.
Treasa O’Neil led the effort for the second straight game with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Joneiha Veiga added 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Katy Holt and Shannon Mullen added 12 and 10 points respectively. Record to date: 11-5
The women’s team will play at 5:00 pm tonight vs. Roxbury CC (weather make-up) to determine first place in the state.

Warriors Capture Bulldogs, 77-70

Franklin, MA. The Massasoit Men’s Basketball Team rallied from a double figure deficit to win a key Division 2 regional game 77-70 over Dean College Tuesday night. Marcus McLaurin led the way with 29 points and Rob Adams added 22 for the Warriors. Quinton Peddy contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds while MCC also received help from Matt Ezepek( 4 points and 3 steals), John Reardon ( 4 points and 8 rebounds), and Marcellus Lee ( 4 points and 6 rebounds). The Warriors will host CCRI tonight at 7 with a chance to capture first place in the Region.

Lady Warriors Fall to Manchester 70-80

Looking to avenge a 100-43 loss earlier in the season, the Lady Warriors faced-off with the Cougars of Manchester Community College on Saturday at the Asiaf Field House, and for a while it looked like they would get their revenge! The Warriors played brilliantly in the first half amassing a 14 point lead, 38-24, by the end of the frame. Mixing excellent defense with a well executed press break, Massasoit scored seemingly at will.

In the second half, however, the wheels fell off the wagon. The Warriors were unable to contain the tremendous inside game of the Cougars as Manchester relentlessly pounded the ball down low. The Cougars got to the foul line 19 times while converting 16 of their attempts. Meanwhile, the Warriors made it to the charity stripe only 8 times in the entire game! Treasa O’Neil led the Warrior attack with a double-double, shooting 57% from the field with 20 points and 10 assists on the day. Joneiha Veiga continued to play well as she dropped 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots. The Warriors play their next game on the road as they face Dean College on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

Bristol DefeatsWarriors, 69-68

The Bristol CC Men's Basketball team edged MCC last night 69-68 in overtime. Bristol made some critical free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. MCC was unable to win despite Marcus McLaurin's 27 points and 8 rebounds. Rob Adams added 19 points for MCC and Quinton Peddy contributed 12. The Warriors play on Saturday at home versus Central Maine. The men’s record stands at 12-5.

Lady Warriors Squeeze By With Win

The Lady Warriors beat the Holyoke Bulldogs at home yesterday with a final score of 60-51.

Helping the team with the win was Joneiha Veiga with 25 points, Shannon Mullen with 12 points, and Katy Holt with 9 points.

The Warriors were ahead at the half 28-17 and built a 24 point lead. In the second half, the Bulldogs played a more aggressive game bringing the Warriors lead down to only 2 points. It took some effort but the Warriors won the game by 9 points. “They had 10 more possessions then us in the second half,” said head coach Sal Pina, “that was the main reason for why they were able to crawl back.”

Coach Pina wanted the girls to focus on blocking Holyoke’s Stephanie White. White has an average 16 points per game but the Warriors held her to 13. “In a situation like this I tell the girls not to look at it as ‘we were leading by 24 and only won by 9’”, said Pina, “I tell them to look at the situation as, ‘we had a 24 point lead and we won, it might have been by only 9 points but we still won.”

The Lady Warriors next home game is Thursday at 5:00 versus Roxbury.

Bunker Hill defeats Warriors 68-53

The Warriors were soundly beat by a BHCC squad Thursday night at the Asiaf. Quintin Peddy had 18 rebounds to lead the Warriors. His efforts allowed MCC to get back into the game after trailing 33-11 at halftime. Mike Genatossio had 5 assists for Massasoit while Marcus McLaurin had 15 points and performed well in the second half. MCC is now 11-4 and plays next Thursday versus a tough Roxbury Community College squad.

Massasoit 64, Bunker Hill 33

The Lady Warriors defeated Bunker Hill Community College by a score of 64-33 to improve their record to 8-3. The Warriors jumped off to a quick 4-0 lead and never trailed in the game. With the score 13-11 with just over 10 minutes to go, the Warriors went on a 21-6 run to end the half leading 34-17. The second half was similar to the first as the Warriors outscored their opponents 30-16 to cruise to a victory. Leading all scorers was Amanda Dutcher with 16 points. Joneiha Veiga added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Shaleeka Rogers chipped in with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Cougars Devour Warriors, 68-61

A lethargic MCC men’s basketball team was defeated by Northern Essex 68-61 Tuesday night. The depleted Warrior squad was led in scoring by Matt Ezepek and Marcus McLaurin with 16 points each. Joe Whalen had a career high 14 points for MCC and Mike Genatossio added a career high 11 points to go with 4 assists for the Warriors. MCC was outrebounded 42-29 and shot only 32% in suffering their first loss in 7 games.

Asiaf Re-opens With A Win

The Men’s Basketball team beat defending 2-Time YSCC (Yankee Small College Conference) champions Southern Maine CC with a final score of 83-62.

This game was a very exciting one with a lot of pressure put on both teams. The teams were evenly matched and in the end the Warriors pulled by with the win.

Marcus McLaurin led the team with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Rob Adams had 17 points, 6 steals, 3 rebounds and 8 assists. Also helping with the win was Shane Coleman with 12 ponts, 3 steals and 4 rebounds, and Marcellus Lee with 14 points and 3 rebounds.

Southern Maine CC is ranked #4 in the Nation by the USCAA (United States College Athletic Association) and has a record of 12-3. Saturday at 3:00 the Warriors with play Central Maine who is ranked #2 in the USCAA.

A December to Remember

With the Asiaf Field house closed until January 5th and the new year right around the corner, the Region XXI report is out giving the Men and Lady Warriors a lot to look back on.

Half way through the season the Men’s team has a division record of 1-1 and a regional record of 7-2. They have scored 748 points making their offensive average 83.1 points per game. Even though they have allowed 666 points, their defensive average is 73.5 points per game.

Rob Adams appears as one of the regions Assist Leaders. Adams has played in all 9 games with a total of 54 assists. Adams has also scored 55 2-point field goals, 13 3-point field goals, and 35 foul shouts. He has an average of 20.6 points per game.

Also playing for the Men’s basketball team, Quinton Peddy appears on the list of Rebound Leaders also playing in all 9 games with 72 overall rebounds.

The Lady Warriors have a division record of 2-1 with a regional record of 6-3. They have scored 558 points making their offensive average 62 points per game and they have allowed 562 points making their defensive average 62.4 points per game.

Captain of the team Joneiha Veiga is on the list of Regional Leaders. With 9 games played, Veiga has scored 48 2-point field goals, 12 3-point field goals, and 22 foul shouts. This makes her average 17.1 points per game. Veiga is also a regional rebound leader with 125 rebounds.

The Warriors seasons will begin again on January 3rd when both teams will be at Gateway Community College. The Lady Warriors start at 1:00 and the Men play following the Women’s game around 3:00.

Warrior Named to All-American Team

Massasoit soccer player Paulo Teixeira continues to rack up the awards as he was recently named to the First Team 2008 NSCAA/Adidas Junior College Division I All-American Team. Paulo was the sole member of this elite team from MA and the only player from the New England Region XXI conference to be recognized. If you see Paulo Teixeira, be sure to congratulate him on his accomplishment.

Massasoit Women dealt a loss by UCAP

The University of Connecticut at Avery Point breezed by the Lady Warriors, 73 -35, on Saturday at the Asiaf Field House. The Lady Warriors lost control of the game early as they were beset by a plague of turnovers. UCAP’s full court pressure stifled Massasoit and inhibited their ability to move the ball over the mid court line and the women trailed 35-16 at the half. The Lady Warriors could not find the hoop making just 14 of 58 shots overall. No Lady Warrior scored in double digits for the game.

While Massasoit was able to neutralize the UCAP height advantage on the boards, out-rebounding them 39-38 behind Joneiha Veiga’s 16 rebounds, UCAP’s height proved to be a problem for the Massasoit offense as they blocked 5 shots and held Massa to just 24% shooting for the game.

The Lady Warriors go on the road Tues 12/2 to take on the Lady Tigers of Roxbury at 5:00pm. GO WARRIORS!!

Men's Basketball Rebounds to the Win

On Tuesday November 25 the men's basketball team defeated Mass Bay at home 87-75

Helping their team with the win were Rob Adams, Marcus McLaurin, and Shane Coleman, all scoring in the double digits.

"We don't have a captain of this team we have leaders," said head coach Jim Stapleton, "we have leaders, and watching this game you can see who those leaders are."

McLaurin had 10 points, Coleman had 12 points, and Adams had 28 points. Rob Adams played all 40 minutes of the game with 9 steals and 6 assists. "It shows a lot of respect for a player when they are in for the whole game" said coach Stapleton.

Marcellus Lee, John Reardon, Marlon Black, John Romanick, Quintin Peddy, Matt Ezepek, and Joe Whalen also helped the Warriors with the win.

The next home game is Saturday December 6 at 1:00 PM.

Men's Basketball Falls Short of a Win

On Thursday the Warriors were defeated in Warwick by the Community College of Rhode Island 86-76.

Rob Adams led the Warriors with 32 points and 9 rebounds. Shane Coleman also contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

"The Warriors showed a lot of fight in attempting to come back on the road" said head coach Jim Stapleton.

The Warriors will try to come back from this loss on Tuesday night when they are at home playing Mass Bay Community College at 6:00 PM.

Women's Basketball Home Opener a Success

The Massaoit Warriors (3-0) played a great game Thursday night when they beat the Bristol Community College Bees (1-2) 90-54.

With a 2-2-1 press the Warriors took the lead early in the first. Even though they had 19 turnovers, because of 19 steals the Warriors led 43-23 at the half.

In the second half the Warriors played a 1-3-1 half court press only turning the ball over twice and allowing them to steal 7 more times. Even though the Warriors turned the ball over more then BCC, the Warriors had the ball 15 more times due to their 50 rebounds versus BCC's 33 rebounds.

Leading the team to victory was none other then the captain Joneiha Veiga. Veiga had 20 of the 50 rebounds along with 5 steals and 30 points. Helping with the 26 overall steals was Shannon Mullen with 5. Amanda Dutcher also added 14 points and starter Treasa O'Neil added another 12. "Ten of the eleven players scored for the Warriors making this a great team victory" said head coach Sal Pina.

Coach Pina said that the Warriors will "face their toughest challenge of the season to date" as they travel to Connecticut to face Manchester Community College this Saturday.
